University of Victoria

One of Canada's top universities with a focus on research is the University of Victoria. The university has a unique advantage due to its dynamic learning environment and exceptional academic learning. The university is ranked third overall among Canadian universities in terms of citation effect per faculty member (QS rankings, 2021) and first among comprehensive Canadian universities in terms of preparing students for careers (2019 Times Higher Education). In 1963, the university was granted the authority to award degrees. The founding of Victoria College, UVic's precursor institution, in 1903 is where the university's beginnings may be found.

CAMPUS TOUR

The park-like UVic campus is only 15 minutes from downtown Victoria. Colorful pathways connect the living and learning areas, educational and recreational amenities, and nature paths through old-growth rainforest.

Around 600 students will soon have the much-needed on-campus housing thanks to new construction at UVic. The structure is now under development; however, it won't be finished until autumn 2023. However, there are currently 2,300 beds and 181 family housing units available at the university.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Undergraduates

After completing your high school studies and applying for undergraduate program, you may be eligible for entrance scholarships:

• Women and Indigenous Engineering and Computer Science students with a minimum admission average of 85%
• Indigenous students with a minimum admission average of 85%. If you meet more than one scholarship criteria, scholarships may be combined!

Postgraduates

• University of Victoria Doctoral Fellowship – $10,000 to $20,000
• University of Victoria Master’s Fellowship – $10,000 to $17,500
• University of Victoria Graduate Award – Doctoral or Master’s – Up to $10,000

Federal research council funding UVic students have a strong history of success in federal research council competitions that provide the following scholarships:

• Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) – Doctoral research scholarships of $20,000 or $35,000
• Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) – Doctoral research scholarships of $21,000 or $35,000
• Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) – Doctoral research scholarships of $35,000
• All three councils award, through UVic, master’s research scholarships of $17,500.
