Travelling in the Ireland:

Bring it everywhere, If you have a student card. It will give you discounts and special rates for students on bus and train trips. Bus Éireann and Irish Rail in the Republic of Ireland will provide student prices with a valid student ID card.

The train network does not cover the entire island, so if you plan to travel the beaten track use buses. Open Road bus passes allow unlimited travel to all Bus Éireann scheduled services. Keep in mind that bus and train services on weekends and bank holidays will be frequent. A dedicated backpacking trip is a great way to meet other travellers, especially when traveling alone. While Ireland is generally a safe haven for tourists, it is not recommended for hiking.

And now, it becomes even easier to travel to Dublin! The Guest Travel Card is a prepaid passport that allows you to travel on all Dublin buses, Air connecting 747 buses and Luas and DART 72 hours (3 days) from its original operation. Simply use your card to tap on Leap Card Validators before or as you board a bus / train / tram and then touch Off when you get lost or leave the station and the trip is registered on your Leap Card. It's that simple.

Being an exchange student is an advantage too: The Leap Training Card is available through your language school and directly from Dublin Bus. You can get a 1 week card up to 4 weeks, which means you can move on to the short hop center with Luas, DART, Iarnród Éireann and the Dublin bus.
