Edith Cowan University Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering responsible for the design, manufacture and repair of mechanical components and moving systems. Areas of study within academia in Australia include the foundation of physical and engineering sciences, as well as materials science, mechanical engineering, and construction services. The course incorporates a specific focus on project-based learning and practical activities and offers many opportunities for students to expand their developmental skills. Students take this course and have the opportunity to take on a professional passion in motorsports. This option offers a special focus on automotive design and automotive engineering. Students should consult a course coordinator if they wish to follow this path.
The program focuses on the development of skills and knowledge relevant to expert engineering practice and including strong practical problem solving, a sound theoretical foundation, team work and project development. As a result, as well as having many technical and transfer skills, graduates will acquire strong analytical skills, and have the ability to difficult projects. Courses provide a solid foundation in mechanics, mathematics, and engineering design principles in the first two years of study, as well as development of relevant knowledge in computer and building assistance, materials science, mathematics and energy, industrial design, and machine design. In the last two years of study, a range of specialized mechanical engineering topics have been covered, including electronic systems, structural analysis, excellent mechanical design, and construction services, providing students with the right knowledge and skills to enable them to contribute to work soon as they graduate.
Graduates will have expertise in all major areas of mechanical engineering, and be able to participate in and lead a variety of projects. Mechanical engineers have a variety of employment opportunities in a variety of industries including product design and development, manufacturing, road and transportation, mining and utilities, public services, agriculture, defense, aviation and consulting. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering may participate in promising careers in any field of engineering.
