Campus tour

Unihelp, which is the student helpdesk, brings together all face-to-face support for general student enquiries in one location. The Helpdesk Advisers provide information and support on all aspects of the university including: coursework hand-in, money and welfare services, and referral to sources of expert support.

The specialist course facilities include professional and industry standard equipment. All sorts of students can take advantage of these facilities to learn and grow. The Midwifery students benefit from augmented reality midwifery equipment. Sports Science students can access facilities at Allianz Park, with opportunities to work with elite players and coaches. Law students have access to specialist chambers at Hendon Town Hall. There are also creative facilities that include industry-standard TV, radio, motion capture and sound recording studios, an 80-workstation digital media workshop and specialist performance and exhibition spaces.

Student Support

Its library, the Sheppard library has over 1,000 study spaces, 600 student computers, 340 laptops for loan as well as access to Wi-Fi. The University also has Studyhub in place, where a team of librarians, academic advisors and IT specialists help with everything from referencing a book to submitting assignments online. Moreover, the Learning Support Zone also offers student appointments, workshops and seminars from academic work to well-being.

The institute also provides essential services for students for free. These includes free printing and photocopying for academic work. There are also free e-books and e-journals including a free copy of the core e-textbook for each module which saves students nearly £400 over a three-year degree.

Its Unitemps service offers students the option of flexible and enjoyable part-time work both on and off campus, which helps them to develop the skills that employers are looking for. Jobs can thus easily be fitted around studies and holidays. In 2018, it employed nearly 600 students in different roles including course ambassador and student ambassador roles, work as IT support, as a translator, fashion models, musicians or as sports assistants.

Future Prospects

Middlesex courses get students work-ready with practical work experience, project-based learning and hands-on teaching. Placements are offered as part of a course or alongside studies, with short-term options for one week and longer options up to one year. One of the University’s initiatives include MDXcel, where students work in teams on real client-driven projects to gain practical work experience, and MDXcelerator which offers support, activities, mentoring and incubation for student start-up businesses. MDXworks provides one-to-one lifelong employability support with experienced advisers on campus and online.

The Career advisers help students develop their CV and online profiles, write applications and prepare for interviews. The online career portal includes tools and resources as well as a jobs board with roles in the UK and abroad. Students are able to meet future employers at career events on campus including recruitment fairs and professional network events thus providing connections to employers through its links to companies such as KPMG and the Ministry of Justice.
