Birkbeck is a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic excellence and London’s only specialist provider of evening higher education.

The College is situated in the heart of the University of London’s central campus, next to many other University of London Colleges, including UCL and SOAS. The central location is only minutes’ walk from the British Museum and other famous London attractions.

Established in 1823, Birkbeck has a long history of offering the highest-quality university education. The College is a multi-faculty institution offering over 200 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The University contains multiple facilities which are present for a better learning environment for the students. This includes a 67-station petrology laboratory for geology students, which features a microscope and touchscreen computer at each station to complement the main teaching equipment, which includes an electron microscope. It also includes the Birkbeck Cinema at 43 Gordon Square hosts regular free film screenings which is an important resource for the Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image, which is also housed in the School of Arts.

The University has a library that supports students throughout their studies. It has a fully-staffed service available late evenings and weekends, dedicated subject help, and disability and dyslexia support. There are also online resources available on and off campus, including subject guides and digitized key readings. It also offers study spaces for different study needs, with computers and a wireless network.

It offers a free, non-judgmental and confidential counselling service, supporting students with emotional and psychological difficulties that affect their experience and engagement with their studies at university. The Disability and Dyslexia Service provides support for students with disabilities and dyslexia to enable all students to participate fully in Birkbeck's courses. The service can offer screenings for students who think they might have dyslexia and also access a wide range of assistive technologies and library support.

Comprehensive careers, recruitment and employability advice, events and information services are offered online and face-to-face through Birkbeck's Careers and Employability Service. The services that the University provide include workshops and events on finding work, an online careers portal providing notices of vacancies, opportunities to speak to careers advisers, panel discussions with employers, industry professionals, Birkbeck alumni and careers consultants, CV and application writing support and also preparation for interviews.

The Enterprise Pathways is also present for students who are starting a business, or have an idea they'd like to get off the ground. It provides a range of events and activities for all students at all levels of study and helps them to develop entrepreneurial skills, enhance their employability and advance their careers. Lastly, the Alumni Careers Clinic is an engaging monthly careers event for current students where students partner up with a member of Birkbeck's alumni community for help with preparing for job applications or interviews, through exclusive one-on-one support.
