Let's Talk ENQUIRE

Education System

The UK is renowned globally for its teaching excellence. Let’s see why.

UK has a proven track record, in T.H.E World University Rankings 2018, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge rank number one and two, with Imperial College London ranked at eight.

Across all world university rankings, criteria and fields of study, United Kingdom ranks highest student satisfaction, good quality of education with reputation.

International students choose the UK qualification to perfect their English and improve their chances of employability.

How it works

Four countries have different educational systems in terms of qualification being offered and structured differently to each of the four jurisdictions: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The differences are most pronounced in secondary education and general.

Qualifications framework

The frameworks are the main national reference points for academic standards in UK higher education. UK homes 160 institutions that are allowed to award a wide variety of degrees that can be a choice for educational aspirations.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees for higher education courses vary, depending on:

  • Where in UK you study
  • Program level of study

For undergraduate students, tuition fees ranges from £10,000 up to £21,000 a year, depending on the course and the university, whereas for all postgraduate courses, tuition fees vary by course provider.

Scholarships

There are number of financial support possibilities for international students in terms of scholarship, bursaries and/or loans for students who wish to study in United Kingdom. Demand for scholarships is always greater than supply and the key to get it apply earlier.

Teaching and learning style

Students attend lecturers, seminars, tutorials and workshops and different ways to convey quality of teaching as UK education has a reputation for excellence and most international students highly rate the quality of teaching they receive.

Studying a UK degree, students are likely to be given freedom to explore their own ideas and to be creative. They may be expected to be an active member of the classroom, where they will do their own research or work in groups with other students for some projects.

UK universities embolden the development of critical and analytical thinking in every subject, which can be a little unnerving for some international students at first. However, this develops a deeper understanding of the subject and the communication skills.

Teachers will encourage you to share ideas and may organise activities such as discussions and quizzes to achieve the idea of having fun and getting involved, to learn more successfully.

Bachelor or undergraduate degrees

Academic study in undergraduate degrees is aimed to help students gain a detailed understanding of a subject.

Postgraduate study

Student finishing a bachelor’s degree, how would they know if undertaking postgraduate study in the UK is the next step for them? Deciding to go on to postgraduate degree is a very important decision. It means surrendering more time and staying out of the workforce, but it is very worthwhile investment in the long term for career growth.

Pathway programs

There are also many pathway programs into higher education for international students including foundation studies and Diploma programs. These ensure students receive the extra help and support they need to succeed and take progression towards their actual degree.

Academic year

Standard academic year starts in September and runs until June, whereas some courses are more flexible, however, and offer a range of start dates. The typical deadline for applications for undergraduate university entry commencing in September is in January of that year. There’s also January intake that has limited available. Private pathway providers also offer additional start dates throughout the year to catch up with the commencing classes.

Learning English

UK has long been at the front position of language teaching and pioneered many of the techniques now used around the world. The emphasis is on learning through participation in different activities instead of just listening to the teacher. Classes involve problem solving and discussions just like similar in a game. Students might also get a chance to listen songs, watch television or read magazines to practise their comprehension skill. Many English language courses are also offered by universities and colleges to help international students prepare for a degree course in the UK termed as ‘pre-sessional English courses’ for these degree preparation programs.

After graduation

Many international students seek the opportunity to stay in the UK after completing their degree and put the skills they have learnt into practice. Students are eligible to extend their stay up to 2 years of post-study work visa, as per the new policies announced by the UK government that if they meet the requirements for the schemes.
