Elgin Community College is a post-secondary educational institution which awards Associate of Arts degrees. It was founded in 1949 as part of Elgin Area School District U46. Community College District 509 was formed 17 years later in 1966, a year after Illinois legislators created the Illinois Community College System. Elgin Community College is located in the state of Illinois, only 60 km northwest of Chicago. The college is centrally located with easy access to O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. Elgin is a community college, which is also known as a two-year or junior college, offers the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Community colleges also offer career-technical programs, certificate programs, and non-credit community programming.
