Electrical Engineering is a discipline that studies electrical and electronic technology. Electrical engineers design, develop, test and repair electrical systems, as well as other electrical equipment. Other routes under Electrical Engineering include Lighting Design, Energy Engineering, Power and Measurement, Smart Electrical Networks and Systems, Electronics, etc. Heriot-Watt University BEng (Hons) provides comprehensive education in electrical and electrical engineering. During the first three years students study subjects from current electronics to high-power systems. In Year 4 you can choose from a set of technical courses to complete your choice of thesis topic.
The program is provided with a traditional on-campus, group-based, time program designed to fund a full course. In the course of time, the courses offer speech-based materials, small group tutorials and a variety of laboratory equipment. Students are expected to complete courses in groups of groups, groups of two, and individually, and the courses offer a variety of types of experimental lessons, ranging from counter-style essay assignments to software and hardware development and implementation. In some courses, team teaching methods are used to provide additional support and diversity, and electronic support, especially in the form of the VISION program, will be available. The level and type of support available through VISION will vary between courses as per the subject.
