Bachelor of Sociology and Politics - BA
English Requirements
- IELTS Overall Band: 6.0
Political and social problems dominate domestic and international affairs, impacting our daily lives and shaping the future. This course will provide comprehensive training in the major areas of political science and social sciences, investigating different types of social differences, interactions and networks to build daily life. Offered in Essex by two of the UK's leading social science departments, the two fields are fundamentally linked. By developing your understanding of both forums, you explore and address broader questions about our society.
You will explore different political systems from around the world and learn important political thinkers and ideas. At the same time, you will learn about the great ideas and traditions of the social world and the processes that have shaped today's society. The choice of module to choose will equip you with important research skills. Core modules in Year 2 will build on your understanding of research strategies in the social sciences, and examine key social themes such as social integration, power and the relationship between person and person. In addition, you will choose one of the political thought modules to build your knowledge of important issues in the matter.
Optional modules for each subject will provide you with a wide range of options - you can focus on different political systems and courses in development, crime, international relations, social policy or security studies. The research and analytical skills you developed throughout the study will prepare you to successfully complete your final year. This independent project allows you to focus on a political or social topic in depth while working with your academic manager. In addition, you will choose last year's modules that cover topics ranging from childhood and youth to political psychology, disability studies to elections or human rights.
