BA Social Anthropology is for understanding, critical thinkers with an understanding of why the world is like this - and to use the knowledge anthropology offers to make it better. You will explore the amazing diversity of human experience, and look at what is unique in human societies and what is unique. He will examine how various political, legal and economic systems influence people's beliefs, values and practices, and you will investigate the very categories used to describe the world, such as gender, religion, race. In addition, he will explore how anthropological insight can be used to make a difference: to see how legal systems can be made more comprehensive; how to improve public health campaigns; and how development interventions can be carried out with great success.
At Essex we investigate what connects people to each other, and what sets them apart. We look at every aspect of our daily lives, from how we interact with politicians, celebrities and friends, to how we define ourselves, our families and others. He studies topics including: Witchcraft, burning ceremonies in North America, and the humor of the Nomadic people, Anthropological approaches to gender, nationality, race and relations, Sociology of immigration, religious belief, and multinational and birth, gender and death. You also get training in social methods - how to design a survey, do surveys, and apply a number of analyzes from a mathematical foundation to big data - to ask difficult questions, and to complete writing a dissertation on a topic that encourages you. Students in the program also have the opportunity to acquire the language proficiency attached to their degree certificate and transcript - see program structure and course content.
