International Development is a line of Social Science that focuses on accelerating global progress. Its approach to diversity, which combines information from Political Science, Sociology and Economics. The issue of international development is rooted in the idea that, in a united world, if others do better, this will also have a positive impact on everyone. Some of the major problems facing people working in International Development are poverty, malnutrition, water and sanitation, education, health and human rights.
The International Development degree in Essex gives you an insight into the challenges of global development. It examines how challenges of competitiveness and inequality, poverty alleviation, economic growth and social development are negotiated and contested, alongside the ways in which individuals and institutions respond to these challenges. Core modules in the program introduce you to key issues such as the impact of colonization, how different organizations contribute to development and how development works in practice. You will also be able to choose from modules to choose from in your final year, allowing you to identify regions, countries and themes that interest you the most - and even spend a semester studying at one of our selected universities to gain new insights into growth.

Graduates of International Development are often employed by NGOs, foundations, advisors, or lawyers, and can find jobs in fields such as Research, Policy Making, Diplomacy, PR, and Advocacy.
