Mechatronics Engineering is a multidisciplinary program at Edith Cowan University, where information on mechanical and electrical engineering is integrated into the development of smart machines and advanced production and performance systems. While developing strong analytical and problem-solving skills are not uncommon in any engineering program, this particular program is directly relevant to the Australian equipment and services industries. Studying in Australia, engineering studies begin with a general basis of scientific engineering in mathematics, mechanics, electrical engineering and computing, and then continue to cover major engineering topics, including digital electronics and microprocessor systems, advanced materials and manufacturing, and mechanical projects.
Mechatronics Engineering offers a broader range of engineering comparisons with standard mechanical or electrical engineering programs with functional mechanical bodies, musical instruments, digital technologies, manufacturing, machine learning, flow systems and control systems. Mechatronics Engineering program focuses on the development of skills and knowledge relevant to specialized engineering practice and a sound theoretical foundation, team work and project development. As a result, as well as having many technical and transfer skills, graduates will acquire strong analytical skills, and have the ability to lead difficult projects. Areas of study within the curriculum include mechanical engineering, computer-aided design and construction, analogue and electronics, signal analysis, electronic systems, industrial control and robots.
Studies focus on laboratory use and on examples used. They gain basic knowledge of engineering processes, product design and use of electronic technology or computer-generated software (CAD). Students need to have mathematical and technical skills, logical analysis, project management and ability to work in teams. Specialists also communicate with the international needs of the community and develop equipment according to these requirements. Mechatronics specialists work in various fields such as the aviation industry, chemical processing, communications, health, nanotechnology, manufacturing, automation and control system design. Activities in the field include product development, control-system engineering, data engineering, electronic technology, consulting, inventing, and more.
