Mechatronics is a field of multidisciplinary engineering that combines principles from computer engineering mechanics, electronics, automation and robots control. At the University of Wollongong Mechatronics design engineers, develop and test a wide range of automated equipment from industrial systems, artificial intelligence and medical equipment, to consumer products. Since their field includes such extensive engineering knowledge, mechanical engineering specialists are generally ordinary engineers, rather than specialists. Engineering colleges and schools generally offer graduate degree courses in mechanical engineering. Students may be able to make different choices at the graduate level. Mechatronics can also be offered as analytics in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or information technology.
Studies focus on laboratory use and on examples used. They gain basic knowledge of engineering processes, product design and use of computer technology or computer-generated software (CAD). Students need to have mathematical and technical skills, logical analysis, project management and ability to work in teams. Specialists also communicate with the international needs of the community and develop equipment according to these requirements. Mechatronics specialists work in a variety of fields, including the, nanotechnology, chemical processing, manufacturing, automation, aviation industry and control system design. Activities in the field include product development, control-system engineering, data engineering, electronics, consulting, inventing, and more. The University of Wollongong is a member of the Group of Eight Dean of Engineering and Associates (G8), one of Australia's premier engineering firms. We are the leading engineering research center in Australia, based on our long-standing partnership with the domestic and international industries and research centers in Australia and abroad.
