Criminology is a multidisciplinary science that studies various sets of information related to criminal activities such as individual and group activities, criminal technology and effective rehabilitation techniques. Crime degrees explores the public's response to crime, the mechanisms and processes of crime prevention and protection and society's protection against crime. During the first year, you will learn about important issues related to crime, criminal justice and the link between the criminal justice system, access to justice and human rights. You will also look at the strength of our social, economic and environmental justice system. During the second and third years, you will study policing, sentencing, rehabilitation, prioritization, abuse, research and policy development, gain a comprehensive understanding of issues and criminal justice practice. For the third year, we provide employment opportunities to all sectors of society, including the criminal justice system and community organizations. Bachelor of Criminology helps you understand the underlying causes of crime and develop new answers to it.
You will have the opportunity to complete the Criminology Practicum in your final year of study, unit delivering classroom expertise through staff-driven seminars, theory and practice activities, and portfolio development that can be used for work or skills development. The course aims to produce students who are empowered to engage in criminal and justice issues, issues that are part of everyday life, and practical knowledge and skills in a multidisciplinary field of research. As a graduate, you will be ready to pursue a career in criminal justice, a police officer, a correctional officer, a case worker, a criminal defense expert, a lawyer, a researcher, a policy developer, a crime intelligence officer, a culture and a border security officer.
