Integrative biology combines all the tools of modern biology to uncover the complexities of biological processes. Essex BSc Biological Science covers a wide range of biology from molecules and cells, to all living things and to the earth. At our school you will discover how new technological changes are fueling the current research, with research-based teaching by leading scientists investigating the challenges of globalization. The vast and diverse world of biology offers a vast range of study and practice opportunities, and at Essex we offer you the flexibility to design your degree to suit your interests. Your first year offers extensive information on cell and molecular biology, genetics, ecology and evolution, as well as an overview on animal, plant, and biodiversity.
The Essex Integrative Biology approach allows you to choose from a wide selection of modules in various courses. Alternatively you can customize your degree to work in your favorite environment, choosing from Molecular and Cell Biology, or Ecology and Conservation Biology. Choose to follow one of our three options: Molecular and Cell Biology Ecology and Conservation Integrated Biology You will gain hands-on experience to develop essential lab and field skills throughout your career. In your final year you will complete an independent research project that allows you to keep up your interests and play your part in adding to the ever-growing knowledge within the natural sciences. Graduates with a bachelor's degree in biology enter the competitive employment market, where practical experience plays a major role. They have access to jobs such as higher education teachers, pharmacists, research scientists or science writers.
