Bachelor of Biochemistry - BSc
English Requirements
- IELTS Overall Band: 6.0
Biochemistry is a multidisciplinary field, in which Biology (analyzing cell parts) and Chemistry (interactions between elements) are combined, in order to understand the processes that occur in living organisms and how to grow them as much as possible. The main roles of Biochemistry are Molecular genetics, Protein Science, and Metabolism. Students will work on all kinds of living things, from human, to animal and microscopic. Biochemistry degrees offer general courses in Microbiology and Immunology, General Biology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biophysics, Cellular and Evolutionary Biology, and more.
Biochemistry is a branch of science that studies basic chemical processes within organisms. Biochemistry explores the processes that cells perform in a variety of fields including genetics, microbiology, forensics and medicine. Because of this range, biochemistry is very important, and the progress in this field over the last 100 years has been amazing. A fun time to be a part of this fascinating learning environment. At Essex, we work on biomolecule structure relationships that provide an understanding of the interactions that take place in the complex cellular mechanisms that control the perception and cell death. You will also use touch techniques and bioinformatics to complement your research. In your BSc Biochemistry you study areas including: Molecular enzymology, Neurodegeneration, Genetic Biology, Bioenergetics and Metabolism.
At Essex’s large, friendly school, you learn about a combination of lectures, conferences and practical lab sessions, which provide you with the opportunity to ask questions and develop skills by doing experiments in a laboratory bench. You gain a solid foundation in all related topics, with the opportunity to contribute to original research projects in your final year of study. After graduating from Biochemistry, graduates can find jobs in hospitals, universities, nutrition centers, drug rehabilitation centers or cosmetics. Over time, students can develop into clinical research relatives, mathematicians, pharmacists, analysts, nanotechnologists, pharmacists, and more.
